The wishes of your loved one

If your loved one had already written down or spoken about their funeral prior to their passing, the funeral director at A Wass Funeral Directors will discuss the details with you and begin putting together a plan of the arrangements. Where no prior discussion or instructions have been given, or not all the details of the funeral were discussed or covered in the will or other document, the following will need to be discussed and decided upon between you and your family and the Funeral Director:

Type of funeral - a burial or a cremation (see below)
Location of the service: church, other place of worship, at the graveside, church and crematorium or just crematorium
Funeral service – hymns, own personal choice of recorded music, readings, eulogy, listing of mourners attending, orders of service, flowers, charitable donations, catering venues and wishes for cremated remains.

Burials

A new family grave

A new family grave or plot can be purchased at a cemetery or graveyard, When purchasing a new grave the depth has to be decided to allow further burials if needed within the new plot at a later date.

A family grave or plot may already exist.

Our undertaker can arrange to have this reopened and the headstone removed before burial. Please note in certain parts of the country, space for burials may be restricted. Consideration should be given for a memorial headstone or a new inscription on an existing headstone. All the above have timing and cost implications, we would be delighted to discuss the various options with you.

Reservations for family, large plots can be made. Woodland burials are now available in many areas in the country, providing a wonderful last resting place surrounded by trees

Cremations

A Cremation service usually costs less than a burial.

There is normally a time limit for the length of the service - depending on which crematorium and which service you choose, longer services can be booked to accomodate your wishes. A Biobox or Urn (depending on your wishes) containing the ashes of the deceased is usually available from the Funeral Director 24 hours after the cremation has taken place. It is up to you and your family what you decide to do with the ashes, keep them in an urn, scatter or bury them.

A Wass Funeral Directors offer a direct cremation from £1095.00 plus disbursements (Third party fee's)

Supplying information about the deceased

In order to make the funeral arrangements A Wass Funeral Directors will need:

The full name of the person who has died
Their full address and date of birth
Details of where and when they died
Confirmation of whether the person who has died had a pacemaker fitted. (Pacemakers must be removed before the cremation)
Details of the next of kin and who is responsible for making funeral arrangements
