A. Wass Funeral Directors was established in 1903 by Arthur Wass and the first funerals featured a traditional horse drawn hearse. Following Mr. Wass’ death in 1943, control of the business passed to his wife and then family members William Arthur and David Wass. During David’s tenure he brought in the talents and skills of local lad Paul Brown; with his experience as a fully qualified funeral director, Paul began helping David run the business and, with the blessing of the Wass family, eventually took over full control as owner and Managing Director.
Paul has grown the business to become one of the most respected and reputable funeral directors in Nottinghamshire and has assembled a professional and talented team of people around him. With an eye on an ever-changing industry, Paul constantly invests in the business to make sure families receive the best possible care. A lot has changed in 120 years and A. Wass has certainly moved with the times. Some things don’t change though; the traditional horse drawn hearse is still available and the foundations upon which the business were built remain – professionalism, care and compassion and a commitment to serving the community.
