Paul Brown – Managing Director

Paul began his career in the funeral industry by doing work experience at the age of 15.  He went on to train and become a fully qualified Funeral Director, taking over as Managing Director of A. Wass in 2014. Paul has built up the business to be the success it is today and has become one of the most reputable funeral directors in the region.  Paul is also Area President of and examiner for the National Association of Funeral Directors.  His passion outside of work is football and Paul is a proud director (and massive fan!) of Mansfield Town Football Club.  

Steve Blakeley – Senior Manager, Funeral Director and Celebrant

Steve has worked in the funeral industry for over ten years.  Having been a professional actor (including playing PC Younger in ITV’s Heartbeat for several years), he was a freelance Civil Celebrant before joining A. Wass full-time as their in-house celebrant in 2020. Steve also arranges and conducts funerals as a Funeral Director and assists with day-to-day management as Senior Manager.  Away from the office, Steve is a serving Magistrate and can also still be found “treading the boards” occasionally.

Della Brown – Office Manager, Funeral Director and Administration

Having worked in the prison service, Della joined A. Wass in 2019.  She oversees management of our three offices and, as Managing Director Paul’s wife, she manages him quite well too. Della is currently studying for her Cert FAA with the National Association of Funeral Directors. Outside of work Della enjoys quality time with their three daughters, going on holiday with family and friends and supporting Mansfield Town Football Club.

Sharon Wainwright – Business Administrator

Sharon has worked in the funeral industry for over 25 years and has been with A. Wass since 2015, as the business administrator. 

Alan Hague – Mortuary Manager

Alan has worked in the funeral industry in various capacities since 1992. He joined the team at A. Wass in 2021 and now oversees and manages our Mortuary.

Lynne Daniels – Mansfield Office

Lynne is Paul’s mum and started working in the funeral industry when Paul took the business over in 2014. Lynne currently works part time at our Mansfield branch. When not helping to run our Mansfield office, Lynne is usually to be found somewhere exotic on holiday.

June Smith – Kirkby Office

June has worked in the NHS at Kings Mill Hospital over 15 years, she is Della’s mum and now our newest member of the team and assisting in running our Kirkby office. Apart from Grand-parenting duties, June enjoys socializing with friends and watching the newest series on TV.
