In Loving Memory Of John —————————————— Fond are the memories, From our childhood years. The crowd we hung out with, The laughter and tears. Where friendships were forged, Between battles and scrapes. And mischief was made, Between narrow escapes. Time has run riot, But I recall simpler days. Where upon Indian Hill, The old dare devil plays. Be it summer on bikes, Or winter with sledges. It tested us all, With its steep stoney edges. Or with air guns and rifles, We all took our chance. Learning quite quickly, The pellet sting dance. The common, our playground, With its thickets and briar. So perfect for hiding, Or building a fire. These were moments in time, We all shared together. In a place that we gathered, No matter the weather. But alas the world turned, And we went separate ways. To adult adventures, With much shorter days. Without blather and capers, Sheer devilry or larks. We all left behind, Our childish sparks. So here I now ponder, Where the years went so fast? And it saddens me greatly, To learn you have passed. Though I may not have known, The man you became. Our friendship was tethered, In childhood game. Where the fun loving boy, With his brazen like guile. Was a friend, mate and brother, With a big cheeky smile. So I’ll remember you there, Where shadows now play. And hold to the memory, Of our yesterday!
